Vibe’s latest BlogStar is…….our biggest loser 2011 Chris Burke

CHRIS Burke had joined countless gyms over the years, but never stuck with a fitness programme or maintained the results he wanted.

But after being a member at Vibe for almost three years now he admits it has changed his life.

He explained: “I had joined several different gyms over the years and my weight had gone up and down and I never seemed to stick with them, going to the gym became a chore.

“But Vibe has been fantastic. Neil has worked wonders in helping me to incorporate fitness and a healthy lifestyle into my everyday routine. I have got great results and been able to maintain them.”

At his heaviest Chris tipped the scales at 15st 7lb, but is now a trim 13st 2lb.

And he believes his success is down to Vibe’s no-nonsense attitude and dedication to its members.

“I’ve been members of these big corporate gyms before and you are just treated as a number. At Vibe there is a real personal touch. The team there know every member and their strengths and weaknesses so they can push them that bit further – they really keep you motivated. All the members are a great bunch and there is a great atmosphere. You don’t feel at all intimidated when you are there.

“Also Neil has really re-educated me about nutrition. Before Vibe I ate a lot of microwave meals, whereas now I do a lot of fresh home-cooking which is benefiting the whole family.”

Chris has two personal training sessions a week as well as doing spinning classes and taking part in Vibe’s Sunday morning running club.

And he was recently crowned Vibe’s Biggest Loser 2011 after losing a staggering 8.5% of his body weight, and 4 % body fat in just seven weeks in Vibe’s New Year weight loss challenge.

He added: “I really enjoy going to Vibe, it isn’t chore it is just part of my day to day routine. I am in my 40s now and wanted to maintain a healthier lifestyle and that is what Vibe has helped me to do.”

Chris ran the Great Manchester 10K run last year in a fantastic time of 48 minutes. His latest challenge is to shave 3 minutes off his time and get round in undere 45 minutes. Watch this space to see if he does it!

JULIE Wallwork has shed a staggering three stone in six months thanks to Vibe’s bootcamps.

Julie, 37, admits she had tried nearly every gym in town, but had never got the results she wanted until she tried Vibe.

But since joining Vibe’s bootcamp in January she has got the fitness bug, has transformed her body and boosted her fitness.

Mum-of-two Julie said: “I had put on a load of weight and I wanted to lose it and get fit again. I had been a member of practically every gym in Bury but hadn’t really stuck with them. Then I saw the signs outside Vibe advertising the bootcamps and thought I would give it a try.”

Vibe’s bootcamps are six-week programmes of intensive group exercise. Bootcamp members have the option to train up to three times each week in small groups. Every session is different incorporating indoor and outdoor training, circuits, toning, weights, and nutrition.

Julie, who is now on her fourth bootcamp, said: “I absolutely love it. Everybody on the bootcamp motivates each other and I have met some lovely people. Every session is different and joining Vibe is the best thing I have ever done.

“Vibe isn’t like other gyms. Everyone is so personable and because the staff all know each member individually they are really encouraging.

“Normally I am quite faddy and my husband gets annoyed as I have paid for so many things in the past, but haven’t stuck to them. Even he is impressed by how I have stuck with this for so long.”

Julie has now joined Vibe’s Sunday morning running club as well as the bootcamps and she is aiming to run the Great Manchester Run next year with the rest of Team Vibe.

Over very first BlogStar is Amber McMillan who has lost three and a half stone and transformed her body shape with the help of Vibe.

Amber, 26, found herself overweight after having her baby Amelia.

She said: “I had let my weight creep up over the years and was probably a stone and a half heavier than I should be when I found out I was pregnant.

“While I was expecting I ate healthily – but I ate very well. I certainly didn’t deprive myself of anything. I was constantly starving and felt like I could never miss a meal. I also had cravings for pies, pasties and McDonald’s milkshakes which didn’t help.

“Throughout the pregnancy I gained another two stone and after I had Amelia there was no way I could fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes. I was the biggest I had ever been and my breaking point came when I had to buy a pair of size 16 trousers.

“That was the incentive I needed to lose weight so I joined Weightwatchers. In 18 months I lost three stone which was fantastic, but then I plateaued. I knew I couldn’t carry on with Weightwatchers forever so I joined Vibe.

“I started off with a bootcamp which was amazing. I had been to gyms before but there were nowhere near as good as Vibe. We all encouraged each other and the trainers were brilliant. I could see my body shape changing – bits that used to wobble didn’t any more. Before I used to dread working out, but now I couldn’t wait to get to Vibe to see what challenge the trainers had for us next.

“Now I am the slimmest I have been for 7 years and would confidently wear a bikini on holiday.

“Vibe is fantastic – the trainers are amazing, everyone is so friendly and the classes are fantastic. Vibe has really changed my life. I know I don’t need to starve myself to stay slim, all I need is to eat healthily and workout.

“I know now that I will never go back to the old me – I even carry those size 16 trousers around with me as a reminder. I am getting married in June and want to stay in shape for that and I know that being a member of Vibe is all the motivation I need.”
